I've started listening to Fr Mike's Bible in a Year podcast and today it was Abraham and Isaac, and talking about how Isaac was a strong adult and how he laid down as a sacrifice for God.
Made me think of the times that Sam and Dean have knowingly laid down ready to sacrifice themselves.
Dean was totally over the whole life thing, so I wonder
if he felt a bit ripped off ending up with eternal life on earth lol
A while ago I heard a youtube vid that about the differing biblical thoughts on this story - that Isaac had been sacrificed and was resurrected as a prequel to Jesus.
While other bible teachings say God saved Isaac before Abraham went though with it, and accepted the blood of a sheep instead, as sacrifice.
Either way, it is similar to the Winchesters (and Cas), being brought back each time after death to do it all again. Was it proof of trust in God, or proof that they were ready and willing to end? In the earlier seasons, without knowing what was ahead of them, I think it was bravery, self sacrifice, doing what was needed to finish the job. Later on, along with the fans, they sorta had hope for what was ahead if they did end up dead.
